PRINTMAKING, ETCHING, DRAWING
This etching piece was initially drawn as an ink sketch in a general purpose art notebook. Developing an interest in actually beginning to become a print maker, I thought it a prime candidate to be my first piece. A first effort was scrapped due to incorrect technique, and this is the second attempt.
The nymph in the piece hangs precariously on a cliff. Is she falling or dancing? I tried to create a sense of movement and motion with the hair and extended arms, and also flow of the background stipple. It was created under the supervision of Tim Whitney at the Warringah Printmakers Studio, in NSW Australia.
This limited edition etching incorporates the intaglio etching process on 1.2mm copper. All the detail and stippling is hand done, and not created by any textured material or process. "Precipice" went through the etching process at least seven times until the final result was achieved."
